Ron DaRosa from Carbondale sent over a report from Devil's Kitchen in southern Illinois.
Did you know that this lake was built back in the days of President Roosevelt? When the war came, work was stopped and the facilities there were taken over by homeless people. Back then, they called them hobos.
Well, after the war was over, Roosevelt and his wife Eleanore went to southern Illinois for a tour to see how the work was progressing at the lake.
The hobos took over one building and used it for their cooking. It was quite a mess. When Eleanore walked into the cook shack, she said, "This truly is the Devil's kitchen." From that day on the lake had a new name.
Here's Ron's report...
Glad to report several big fish were caught today. I elected to fish DK (Devil's Kitchen) to catch some eaters as did Gibby. Hogan and Strat took Cedar Lake patrol today and it paid off !
They reported catching several over the 18" limit and 20 fish over all.
Hogan and Strat had a couple in the 5lb range. I brought home a limit of eaters. Both lakes had fish caught on jerkbaits and I caught a solid fish on a jig also.
A friend of Gibbys was an DK today and caught a 8.8! Fish was beautiful. Gibby and Hogan will forward pictures of the 8.8 and the Cedar fish. RD
And here is the report from Brandon Gibbs with the photo of that big bass.
Fish was caught on the south end of this very deep and very clear lake. Steve went to muddy water looking for water that was a bit warmer trying to get ready for a club fish off that is next weekend. He caught several fish (next biggest was 3.5 lbs.) in dirty water on a 200 series bandit in less than 6 ft. of water that was 45-48 degrees.
Thanks for the photos guys.
