I just got a press release about some summer jobs that are available for teens. I'd like to share it with you.
Summer Positions Available at Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge
CHAUTAUQUA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, near Havana, Illinois, will hire up to eight individuals, ages 15 through 18, for employment in the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Program. Enrollees will be selected in a random drawing to participate in the eight week program, which will run from June 14 through August 6. Applications must be received at the refuge headquarters by 3 PM on April 23. If selected, applicants under the age of 16 will be required to obtain a work permit before May 1.
YCC enrollees work on wildlife habitat improvement projects, refuge maintenance projects, boundary posting, and brush cutting. The work is primarily outdoors so exposure to insects and poison ivy is inevitable. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided by the refuge.
Youth Conservation Corps crew members will be paid the state minimum wage of $8.25/Hour, 40 hours/week, for eight weeks. The daily reporting site is located 8 miles northeast of Havana just off the Manito Blacktop. Working hours are 7:30 AM-4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The refuge is also seeking applicants for two biological technicians to supervise the YCC crews. These technician positions will run from June 7 to August 13. The refuge is looking for individuals experienced in carpentry and other maintenance area s to perform trail maintenance as well as constructing and repairing boardwalks, kiosks, observation decks and other outdoor work. Individuals having experience working with youth are preferred. If selected a background check is required. The application period opens March 15 and closes March 26. Education and/or specialized experience requirements for these positions are outlined in the announcement. The salary is $15.00 to $19.50 per hour depending on previous government experience.
