The fabulous occasion was the one year anniversary of Ian Schrager's Public Hotel (formerly the Ambassador East). The hotel innovator operated the famed Studio 54 from 1977 - 81 and remembers that time period as "It was a very indulgent age - it almost destroyed me - over the years I started forgetting the bad part and only remembering the good part ... my ambitions and aspirations kind of moved on from that." Local celebrities seen in the crowd included accomplished photographer Victor Skrebneski, Desiree Rogers, and actor Billy Zane.

His ambitious nature materialized into Public Chicago, the very first property to open under his new brand name, Public Hotels. Public attempted and succeeded at offering (3) key ingredients most important to their customers: terrific service, style, and value all under the same roof. Schrager's interior designs feature quality and comfort to the utmost degree, without any compromises.
