Venue One (on W. Randolph St.) was the impressive location where over 700 enthusiastic professionals showed up to support a very worthy cause: the Children's Oncology Services, Inc. 5th Annual Campfire Ball .... Excited guests feasted on camp-themed favorites such as hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, and s'mores provided by Cork Catering. Overflowing were the generous food and drink donations from Bridgehouse Tavern, Hub 51, Cocomori Cake Pops, and Marianberry Cookies (among others).
"Bug Juice" was the cocktail of the night while volunteers roamed the crowded floor, offering delectable hors d'oeuvres to hundreds of hungry supporters .... In the spotlight were sports and media celebrity bartenders including Jerry Azumah, Kori Chambers, Jason Goff, and Irene Michaels who were very busy, trying to satisfy a thirsty, festive crowd ....
Other attractions included a novelty and very popular Digital Photobooth by MVS Studio. Not to be overlooked was a fine wine auction and a terrific silent auction, which included such valuable items as: a trip to New York city, including airline tickets, limousine rides, a suite at the Plaza Hotel, tickets to a Yankee's game, and dinner at the Empire Steakhouse (valued at $2250). Also offered were a one week stay in Lake Geneva, a Chicago VIP package including dinner at RPM Italian restaurant, and one night at Waldorf Astoria with a breakfast- brunch. Entertaining the lively crowd for hours was charming DJ Matt Roan, playing dance music well into the night that seemed to appeal to everyone ...
The main purpose of the Campfire Ball is "... to rally to send more kids with pediatric cancer to camp. The best part is that the organization is a small but mighty non-profit who believes that a diagnosis of cancer should not prevent a child from experiencing the simple joys of childhood" according to Rachel Drescher, event chair and camp counselor. One Step At a Time programs benefit by the Campfire Ball and give kids with cancer the opportunity to experience summer camp and educational programs. This proud and traditional organization is able to send one child to summer camp in Lake Geneva to enjoy swimming, boating, hiking, and camping out for every $1,000 raised.
A remarkable $100,000 was raised by this magnificent event, allowing 100 unfortunate kids the golden opportunity to enjoy summer camp activities that the rest of us have always taken for granted. Congratulations go out to event chairs Rachel Drescher, Jordan Izsak, and Michelle Weiler for coordinating such a wonderful and highly successful fundraiser !!
