Paula and Alexis Fasseas
The animal kingdom was well represented Friday night as canine breeds of all shapes and sizes stopped by Galleria Marchetti in celebration of PAWS Chicago's "Animal Magnetism" party .... Mouth watering cocktails and delicious hors d'oeuvres were followed by a sumptuous buffet dinner. Every breed from the largest Great Dane to the smallest Chihuahuaenjoyed the attention of hundreds of dog lovers who gathered in the name of supporting PAWS- Pets Are Worth Saving.
PAWS certainly has something to celebrate: the number of homeless pets euthanized in our city has dropped by more than half- from 42,561 in 1997 to less than 18,000 last year. As a national role model, people from across the country visit PAWS every month to see how they can develop a similar facility in their own towns.
Paula Fasseas (PAWS Founder and Chairperson) entertained the crowd with a brief but significant speech about PAWS accomplishments during the past year. Following Paula and a short awards presentation was a live auction which included: the chance to fly a WWII military airplane (with a guidance instructor), four Cubs tickets with a party bus, a trip to New York to see "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon", and a 4-day Caribbean cruise aboard a Carnival cruise "Fun Ship".
An unbelievable 81 items offered for the silent auction, featuring luxury prizes from 8 different categories. Among those things offered were accessories for dogs, entertainment packages, dinners at exclusive restaurants, weekend hotel rooms, artwork, fashion & jewelry, salon treatments, cosmetics, health club memberships, and sports memorabilia.
Following Paula and the live auction was a charismatic DJ and pulsating dance music accompanied by terrific desserts and coffee which kept the crowd satisfied until the latenight hours ....
Rest assured, all tails were happily wagging all the way home from this particular pet party!!
