Celebrities & Chicagoans Celebrate Oscar

The parties prior to the Oscars are getting as popular  as the show itself. Many of the top notch agencies, producers and studios host lavish parties throughout the week leading up to the awards. Some of this year's "A" list parties were held by Bryan Lourd, Ari Emanuel and Barry Diller. HarveyWeinstein  had his party at the luxurious SoHo House in Hollywood ...my favorite. The after Oscar party was held at Guy  Oseary's  home with Demi Moore and Madonna  in attendance. Some of the most beautiful people in  the world attend these parties along with the wardrobe to match.
Oscar  week is highly charged with anticipation and rightly so. Not an easy job to get up in front of millions of people and try  to present a flawless speech in addition to being cool, calm and collected. Sometimes excitement reigns and the unexpected happens.
The view backstage is always fun for me. There is always a celebration going on before the celebrities even step foot on stage.  It was interesting to see how many stars were on their blackberrys before curtain time. The question that still remains is why are so many people fascinated with the stars. The most common answer I received was "We admire their courage and wish we could do it." It certainly takes a great deal of guts to expose oneself like that.
I am so happy Colin Firth  won best actor, not only because he deserved to win, but I am partial to him as a person. He is one of the nicest  and most polite actors I have met.
I love the line his director Tom Hooper said  " It was just dumb luck ."  Sorry Tom but in my humble opinion, there is no such thing as dumb luck in this business.
My second favorite star was Natalie Portman. Not only for her
acting  ability  but for her humble demure and gracious attitude as well.
She wasn't interested in acting at her early age, but we are all glad she stuck with it.
Although great efforts were given by the two hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco
they didn't live up to the audience expectations. The show moved way too slow and there definitely should be some categories removed.  Overall opinion...just not special!
All in all it is still The Oscars.
Below are some photos of the various  parties of the week to remember.
