A Moment of Beauty And Clarity In An Otherwise Ugly World

Since Easter two women were murdered by their husbands with their children in close proximity.

A woman was gunned down in front of her house last Friday in a drive by and two days ago a 14 year old killed another 14 year old allegedly because of a boy.

As Americans and Chicagoans we find a way to live with all of this ugliness day after day.  Often thanking God that we're allowed to safely get home and see our loved ones.  Silently praying that we won't be next.

I don't know about you but all of this news, especially the 14 year old on 14 year old murder, has left me in a horrible ugly mood.

When I'm in a horrible ugly mood I look for things to make me feel better.

This makes me feel better.

That's a picture of the rear of the Museum of Science and Industry looking north from the Japanese Gardens on the Wooded Island in Jackson Park.  It is one of the most beautiful places in the city and it's not even in full bloom yet.

I'm going to take a deep breath and pray.

Normally I don't feel the darkness of this world but for some reason today I honestly do and it makes me incredibly sad.

Sometimes looking at pretty things lets me know that ugliness won't win.

'Cause right now I need a moment of zen.
