Uninsured, Unemployed & Obamacare: Don't Lose Your ID or Password

After a few attempts, I finally setup an account on healthcare.gov.

Now I had to go back in and fill out an online application.  As we all know, that hasn't been the easiest thing to do.

Heavy traffic and technical problems have beset this roll out literally from day one so I gave it a few days to (hopefully) settle down before I tried again.

Now there was a new problem:  I forgot my ID and password.

Remembering passwords to all of your bank accounts, social media and email can be a bit overwhelming.  I wasn't looking forward to adding one more account to the mix.  I'm sure I wrote the information down somewhere---I just couldn't find it.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to forget my healthcare.gov password and I'm sure I won't be the last.

But be forewarned, if you lose or forget your ID and password, the transcript below is what you're going to go through:

[08:58:04 am]: Thanks for contacting Health Insurance Marketplace Live Chat. Please wait while we connect you to someone who can help.

No worries. Good morning Emmanuel.

[08:59:22 am]: XXXX

Believe it or not, I've forgotten my ID & password.

[09:00:02 am]: XXXX

I've followed the procedure to retrieve them/get them reset but haven't received an email from healthcare.gov yet.

[09:00:09 am]: XXXX

It's been several days.

[09:00:15 am]: Emmanuel

Thank you. One moment please while I look that up.

[09:06:28 am]: Emmanuel

Okay, just a quick question have you checked all your folders on your email? It could be in your spam folder, if not ho ahead and try the process again.

[09:06:55 am]: XXXX

That's the first thing I did when I didn't see the email in my inbox four days ago.

[09:07:28 am]: XXXX

I just did the process twice about 10 mins ago.

[09:07:31 am]: XXXX

[09:08:46 am]: Emmanuel

It could be we have a lot of visitors trying to use our website right now and its causing some glitches to occur with the system. If you try the process again give it about 2 hours. Have you completed the application?

[09:10:20 am]: XXXX

The only thing I've managed to complete is creating an account.

[09:11:27 am]: XXXX

Emmanuel, I understand there is heavy traffic and systems malfunctions, nonetheless I've been doing this for the past four days. Two hours isn't going to fix the problem.

[09:12:52 am]: XXXX

I apologize for the inconvenience. If you continue to have issues with the online application go ahead and give us a call at 800-318-25-96 so we can complete the application..

[09:13:05 am]: XXXX

Four days for a password recovery? Seriously?

[09:13:46 am]: XXXX

You actually think I'm going to get through on the phone line? God bless you for thinking so.

[09:14:15 am]: Emmanuel

I apologize for the inconvenience.

[09:14:24 am]: XXXX

I know that's all of the help you can give me right now...

[09:15:20 am]: XXXX

...And this is coming from a registered Democrat, someone who voted for the President twice, is unemployed and is eager to see what possible benefits this new law can provide...

[09:16:27 am]: XXXX

...But this is outrageous.

[09:17:04 am]: XXXX

I truly expected more from an administration that's supposed to be tech savvy with a three year lead time.

[09:17:26 am]: Emmanuel

Do you have any other questions that I can help you with?

[09:17:58 am]: XXXX

When I was working I was in IT and *I* could of project managed this without this drama.

[09:18:10 am]: XXXX

But I'm sure you hear this every day.

[09:18:46 am]: XXXX

As a former help desk person, I feel for you.

[09:19:18 am]: XXXX

Actually yes, I do have one more question.

[09:19:45 am]: XXXX

If I don't see an email in two hours, then what?

[09:20:58 am]: Emmanuel

I would recommend you give us a call so we can complete your application.

[09:22:35 am]: XXXX

Thank you for your time. Have a good remainder of the day.

[09:22:46 am]: Emmanuel

So let's recap, if you lose your password you have to call a phone line that's always busy.

I expected more from our first technologically savvy presidential administration.

Odd---the President can always find a way to get those email blasts to me to ask for money but his crack IT team couldn't retrieve my ID & log in information in a timely manner.

Go figure.

After a few minutes of stewing, it turned out that the healthcare.gov did have one saving grace that helped me jog my memory.
