A world beyond the University of Chicago, Hyde Park is the city’s most underrated neighborhood: full of eclectic shops, locally-owned restaurants, and family-friendly parks; home to hippies, hipsters, and, of course, the raging academic; and hideaway for dozens of unexpected treasures (the Osaka Garden, the Neighborhood Club’s Tot Lot, Istria’s pistachio gelato).

Here, we'll cover all these things and more, including current Hyde Park issues (the redevelopment of Harper Square, the mysteries of getting your kid into Lab); and upcoming Hyde Park events (Akiba-Schecter’s 5k, Cocktails and Clay at the Art Center, the one-day-only return of the jerk chicken sandwich at Zaleski & Horvath).

Featuring interviews with local business owners, politicians, and other players in the Hyde Park scene, this blog aims to deepen the sense of community already intrinsic to Hyde Park, and to introduce Chicagoans all over to the South Side neighborhood that has seemed, until now, off the map.
