I hope your a/c is working...
Though it won't be much cooler this weekend, here are a handful of things you can do beyond your front door...but not by much! (PS -- These events, in a stroke of good luck, are all FREE. Man, I love city living!)
12 pm - 2 pm
Jazz in the Courtyard
This is nice, right? The plaza near Treasure Island is featuring different jazz musicians each Friday. Grab a snack at Bonjour, pick up a birthday gift at Toys Etc, and relax for a little while. This Friday is Willie Pickens, a pianist. Cool, man.
Akeelah and the Bee
DuSable Museum Sunken Garden
A kid-friendly movie in a kid-friendly location, at a kid-friendly time. Sounds like a winner to me. There's also free popcorn AND if all that wasn't enough to make this a don't-miss event, there's also the 'Du Bee,' which is a silly name but will be SUPER FUN. It's a family feud-style spelling bee open to groups of 3 or more. With prizes!
11 am - 9 pm
Hyde Park Summer Festival
Music, food, art, plus everyone you know will probably be there. Petting zoo and other fun stuff for the chitlins.
Free, though donations are encouraged (and required if you want a VIP seat, you fancy pants.)
10 am - 6pm
Gold Coast Art Fair
Not technically RIGHT outside your door, but also not far, especially given that it's no longer held in the actual Gold Coast.
Free to enter.
