The La Grange Historic District covers a lot ground and encompasses a large number of buildings – nearly 1,000. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and ranks as one of the largest historic districts in the Chicago area.
The home at 113 S Kensington Ave is in the Historic District and was built in 1881. Its residents don't appear in the 1892 directory (pdf) of La Grange, but its neighbors do – a music teacher and a silverware dealer.
The 4-bedroom, bath-and-a-half home retains many of its original Victorian features, including stained glass, ribbon oak floors and carved oak woodwork. It just came on the market, priced at $576,500.
