For reasons I can't quite fathom, home builders like to call their age-restricted (55-plus) developments "active adult communities." What I can understand, however, is the very strong appeal these communities have to many home buyers in the 55-plus age cohort.
I recently visited Cambridge Homes' Carillon at Cambridge Lakes and toured the "Beethoven" floor plan with sales manager Kurt Pazdra. The model, according to Pazdra, is "extremely popular with buyers who desire an open floor plan."
The 1,716 square-foot home offers two widely-separated bedrooms, two baths, a great room with optional sunroom, and a two-car garage, priced from $201,000. Many items that I've seen as options at other developments are included in the Beethoven model's pricing.
Carillon at Cambridge Lakes is part of the extensive Cambridge Lakes development by Cambridge Homes n Pingree Grove. The Carillon development offers a range of amenities centered on a private clubhouse (video). When completed, the 55-plus portion of the development will include nearly 1.300 h homes and 149 acres of open space, walking trails, a three-hole golf course, and a community garden and play area for visiting grandchildren.
