Gazing down on the stars in Winnetka

The Winnetka Community House, which has to rank among the best community centers in the country, is celebrating its Centennial this year.

If you're considering a move to Winnetka, you can take advantage of Reaching for the Stars, one of the Centennial events, to get to know the Village better.

Reaching for the Stars is a public display of 57 star-shaped sculptures scattered through the Village. The 57 pieces are all created by local artists and sponsored by local organizations, companies and individuals or families. The art will be on display throughout the summer and fall, and auctioned at a cocktail party on November 2.

You can wander serendipitously around Winnetka looking for the stars, or you can sample a constellation of them by starting at Chestnut and Elm, where all four corners host stars, then heading a block north, south or east to find more.

The supernova of Reaching for the Stars is in front of the Winnetka Community House. Several of its facets are pictured above, and below.

My nominee for Best Star Pun is the Loan Star outside the BMO Harris Bank branch at Green Bay and Elm.
