Evanston, Lake Geneva or New Buffalo?

Lake Geneva and New Buffalo are popular second-home choices for many Chicagoans.

When I look at some of the beautiful lakefront homes on Chicago's North Shore, I wonder whether they should be in the running as second homes for city dwellers. That thought occurred to me yesterday when I visited a well-attended broker's open house at 581 Ingleside Park in Evanston.

Calling this "the most beautiful home in Evanston" would be selling it short, according to Koenig & Strey's Sally Mabadi, who deems it the most beautiful home on Chicago's North Shore.

The gracious 5-bedroom, 4 ½ bath home is on a serene acre adjacent to a park, and boasts 180 feet of Lake Michigan frontage accessed via a gently rolling lawn. Its North Evanston location is close to Lighthouse Park, the Evanston Art Center and much of the best of Evanston.

When I first toured this home last year it was priced at $5,250,000. It's now at $4,400,000.

Sally Mabadi is joined by Caitlyn Terrell, Koenig & Strey's Director of Luxury and Development, in this brief video explanation of why this is Evanston's most beautiful home.
