Isabella St defines a large part of Wilmette's southern border with Evanston. On the north side of the street west of Green Bay Rd, in Wilmette, there has been quite a bit of teardown activity and new homes built over the past decade. On the south side of the street, in Evanston, there's been nowhere near as much.
Both sides of the street share an attractive, almost identical location, with easy access to the transit and pedestrian-friendly, quasi-urban scene along Central St in Evanston.
The discrepancy in new construction volume between the Evanston and Wilmette sides of the street is a good proxy for the relative attractiveness of the two communities to newcomers. Wilmette has the clear edge in elementary and high schools, and has the added benefit of lower real estate taxes than Evanston.
The exterior of the home at 1148 Isabella St in Wilmette appeared to be complete when we drove by it in September of 2010, as evidenced by the above frame from our video of the drive. The newly-built 5-bedroom, 4 ½ bath home just came on the market several days ago, priced at $1,395,000. It can also be purchased furnished at additional cost.
The home is listed with Prudential Rubloff's Vincent Scott and is the only Wilmette home that will be open for viewing this weekend, Sunday January 1, from 11 am to 3 pm.
