Wilmette's charming Plaza del Lago shopping center has had its ups and downs over the years.
The developer who completed it in roughly its current configuration anticipated the ups years before they arrived and saw the project go to its lenders. Major tenants have come and gone and the Spanish-themed center is now, according to a report in Trib Local, experiencing a 40% vacancy rate.
The Trib Local story provides some texture to the reactions that can be provoked in Wilmette by merely uttering "drive-through." It appears that a CVS Pharmacy will come to Plaza del Lago after receiving approval for, let's say, an automobile-accessible facility.
