A historic number of North Shore waterfront homes now available

If you want to live on Lake Michigan on the North Shore there's now an unusual window of opportunity, according to local correspondent Karen Arenson.

"There are more waterfront properties on the market now than at any time in the past 20 years," says Arenson, "and some are selling quickly. A home on Sheridan Rd opposite the Baha'I House of Worship recently sold just before it went into the MLS, priced at upwards of $6 million." The site, pictured above, is just south of Wilmette's harbor. A vacant lot on the same stretch is also on the market.

"A gorgeous home on Sheridan Road in Wilmette came on the market 9 days ago, at $4.295M, listed with Pam Kirby," Arenson added. "There's also a home at 1000 Michigan in Wilmette for $4.349M, and a recently-listed home in Winnetka at $4.850M. Chris Downey has a home on the ravines in Winnetka coming on the market in a few days, at $8M-plus."

Arenson, who manages Coldwell Banker's Wilmette and Winnetka North offices, didn't dispute my guesstimate that there are fewer than two dozen homes, in total, on the lake in Wilmette.
