Evanston vintage 2-bedroom condo, in a walk-to-everything location

Local correspondent Mike Stern, who manages Koenig & Strey's Evanston office, suggested we take a look at the changes in Evanston architecture over the years by visiting some representative buildings.

Our first stop was the vintage courtyard, built in the 1920s, at 2514 Prairie Ave, where a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo with updated kitchen and baths is currently for sale through Bonnie Wilson of Mike's office at $275,000.

Mike and I chatted briefly about the location - one of my favorites on the North Shore, just steps from Central Street shops, dining, galleries, parks and more, and a few minutes walk from the Metra station. A bus along Central connects to Northwestern, Evanston Hospital and the El line to the city.

I asked Mike about the local real estate market and he indicated it's been rebounding since the first of the year. Evanston's strengths insulated it from areas that have seen more severe price drops, said Mike, but "$500k is the new $600k."
