While I'm away on vacation this week, I'm dipping into the archives to show you around parts of Chicago we haven't visited in a while. On today's tour we'll walk around two Chicago neighborhoods looking at apartment buildings.
Chicago's Gold Coast is one of the easiest locations you can imagine in which to find an apartment. Within a 5-minute walk of the corner of Dearborn and Davison you'll find dozens of vintage and contemporary apartment buildings with a wide range of rental options.
On a sunny Friday afternoon a year ago I met Stephanie Konow at Dearborn and Division for a brief look at 8 apartment buildings along a short 2-block stretch of Dearborn just south of our starting point. In most cases you can simply walk into the on-site management office and quickly see what's available for rent. Or you can do your research online at Apartments.com, YoChicago and Chicago Rentals Direct and select the few area buildings that suit your needs.
In our next video Stephanie and Katie Bommarito walk me around six high-rises in the New East Side neighborhood -- the area bounded by Lake Michigan, Millennium Park, Michigan Ave and the Chicago River. The Lakeshore East development is a newer series of buildings in the neighborhood.
The video helps you see how easy it is to find an apartment in downtown Chicago without using one of the many often useless rental services that have contributed to rising rental costs by confusing tenants into using their "services."
Stephanie Konow and Katie Bommarito, former apartment rental agents, co-founded Chicago Rentals Direct, which enables renters to be their own agent and connect directly with Chicago landlords.
