In 2016, I challenged myself to go on at least one date a month. I thought that seemed pretty easy, especially since I started using dating apps halfway through the year. But I put forth a lot of effort to meet guys that would eventually turn into a date. I hit my goal of 12 and even met the guy I'm still dating now! Can you guess which one he is in my 2016 year-end blog?
As we head into 2019, it's a time to set goals and start fresh for the year. You'll hear stats about how people give up on their New Year's Resolutions within two months, but I want to assure you that you can make anything happen if you set a goal, create a plan and surround yourself with people who will help you get there. Celebrate little wins. Hold yourself accountable. Have fun!
When I was doing my quarterly check in on my 2018 goals, there was one thing that I really wanted to make happen. I wanted to write a book. I wanted to share even more stories about setting goals to land dates. What I found was that actually writing the book was another example of setting a goal to achieve anything in life. On November 2, I decided to write a book that would be self published on Amazon by January 1st. I had been reading and listening to so many people who were able to write a book in 30 days and 90 days, so I thought I would try.
I calculated how many words I needed to write per day and worked backwards from there to create my plan. Then, I announced it to the world. I posted it on social media, including LinkedIn where all of my professional connections would see. There was no turning back, and that was so extremely motivating. So on January 1st, I posted my first book on Amazon, Ms. Calculated: A Dating Plan So Easy A Teenager Can Do It! It's been a dream since I was a kid to write a book. A real dream come true. And all it took was two months, and some help from friends (thank you, Aaron for helping with the title and designing the cover, and John for editing the book!). It took a plan to make it happen.
I know that you have a story to tell this year, and that's what will help you meet some amazing people who might turn into that special one. Commit to getting out there. Set a goal for the year that will keep you on track to go after whatever you want. I promise that it works in dating. It works in book writing. It works in life. Dating IS marketing. Let's make your dreams come true this year!
