After two years, the short version of Robert Mueller's report came in on Sunday....or at least what the Attorney General wanted you to see. Is anyone really surprised by what we've heard?
For those of you who thought this was going to be the end of Donald Trump's presidency, what did you think was going to happen? Were you expecting that immediately after the findings were released that FBI agents would be storming the White House and leading the Donald out in handcuffs? As great as that would have been, if that's what you thought would occur, then how naive are you?!
If you've read this column anytime in the last few years, you know I
hate dislike loathe Donnie and all his people as much as anyone. I would have loved for him and all his family, including little Barron, to be on their way to a federal prison. But as a citizen of the United States, I have to admit that it's a good thing that the President of the United States DID NOT collude with a foreign entity to rig the results of an election. Thank goodness for small favors, I guess.
Here's what really gets me...here's what really pisses me off. This is a good day for Trump and his administration. They should be basking in vindication. Yet, they can't help but lie about what the report actually says. It took Sarah Sanders a matter of minutes to Tweet:
"The special counsel did not find any collusion and did not find any obstruction."
That is not at all what Mueller said. Not ever close. Why the fuck does she lie about it? What purpose does it serve. I guess she just can't help herself. Maybe she actually believes it because an hour or so later she doubled down with this: "The President and his millions of supporters have been completely vindicated."
Or maybe, and most likely it's this, she's just saying what her boss wants her to say. It echoes his tweet of, "No collusion, No obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION."
What's the actual deal with these folks? Are they totally delusional? Maybe they have issues with reading comprehension Are they just total liars? Probably all three, with a lot of the latter.
So that's it for the Mueller investigation...at least until the subpoenas begin for the full release of the report. Maybe we'll even see a request for Mueller, Barr, Rosenstein and others to testify before Congress....actually, there are no maybes about that, we will and soon. But for now, it's back to the normal, everyday madness of the Trump administration. Good times! UGH! I'm almost going to miss the constant talk about the entire procedure being a witch hunt. Hmmm...do you think Manafort, Cohen, Gates, Flynn, George P. and the others who were guilty and may be doing prison time think it was a witch hunt?
But, yanno....I wonder how those other federal court proceedings are going? I wonder how Individual #1 is doing? Do you think there's any obstruction going on?
