"It's great to be playing back in America.
Feels like we're coming home."
While most septuagenarians are shutting it down, the Rolling Stones are kicking it up...big time style. The boys are hitting the road in 2019, with a U.S. stadium tour. Thirteen shows are booked in some of the largest venues in the country. It starts in Miami, on April 20 and ends at Soldier Field, in Chicago, on June 21.
Two months of only rock and roll...and we like it.
It was October of 1989. Steel Wheels tour. I left the Los Angeles Coliseum thinking these guys looked and sounded old. Maybe they were close to being done.
Not even close!
Somehow the Rolling Stones have found the fountain of youth. They've been rejuvenated since that night almost three decades ago. I wish I knew how they do it. Maybe, it's keeping active that keeps them young? It's what we're all told to do. These dudes just do it to at a level most of us in their age range can't comprehend. And it doesn't look like it's ending any time soon.
"I'm not thinking of retirement. I'm planning the next set of tours. I'd love to record a Stones album. I've got a lot of songs that would be great for the Stones." ~Mick Jagger
There's no reason for it to end. The European leg of the "No Filter" tour grossed $237 million with more than 1.5 million fans attending the shows. It was one of the most commercially successful tours of 2018. Expect the same totals for the U.S. leg.
So here come the Rolling Stones again. If you start them up, they'll never, never, never stop.
