Enjoy Every Eggroll

Life is so random.

One day you feel a need to have an eggroll. You head up to Wisconsin, have a little Chinese food and at the end of the meal you find yourself passed out on the floor. Two days later it's brain surgery. A short time later your life is over.

Seriously...WHAT THE FUCK?! How can that possibly happen? I blame the eggroll and Wisconsin.

Norm Dachman was part of our blogging community at ChicagoNow. He wrote the ChicagoThen column. Pretty snappy title...get it?

I never had a chance to meet him and I'm more than saddened by that. I know him through his writing and through his daughter, Teppi, who is also part of our gang.

But even though we never met, I felt connected to him in a lot of ways. He reminded me of my own father...a lot.

They were in the same age range. They shared the same first name. They even looked somewhat alike....I know, pretty freaky.

Normy Moore Norm Moore meet Norm Dachman NormanD Told you they even looked alike. Pretty strange.

My dad has been gone for 32 years and maybe that's why I felt such a connection to a man I never met. Maybe it's a Field of Dreams thing. Hey Norm, wanna have a catch?

If you want to get to know him, just click on the link and you can find his entire collection of Blogs. Everything from the Holocaust to a date with Barbara Walters.

Saturday, our Blogging group had a picnic. At the end of the day, we warmly toasted a man most of us had never met. I led the toast and had a hard time getting the words to come out without choking up. It takes a special guy to make that happen.

Hopefully tonight, Norm is hanging out with his wife, getting reunited. Maybe in a few days, after he settles in a bit, he can get together with my Dad. I'm pretty sure they'd be good friends.

As we all know, life is short. You never know what's going to happen or when. To paraphrase Warren Zevon....Enjoy Every Eggroll.

Last June I hit the magic age of 60. Almost immediately I found myself not feeling as well as usual. Go figure, I mean, I am 60 years old, whether I want to admit it or not!! But then strange symptoms started to occur. A friend, who is a doctor, told me to get checked out....Voila...Parkinsons. That's what this is all about. Living every day with this. Personal info... I'm 60 divorced with 2 daughters in their early 20's live in the city...lakeview area...grew up in the north burbs. Lived in So. California for 13 years...may go back...I hear winters are warm there!! :-)
