Nerd fitness! The Spreadsheet Diet

It is a little known fact about me that I love spreadsheets. I don't know what it is about all that delicious data analysis, but for a generally unorganized person I do a lot of life-living on Excel. Well. Okay, these days I'm on the bootleg Google docs, but I feel I should be fully forthcoming. 

I planned my wedding on a spreadsheet and when I was single, I wrote a formula to figure out which guy I was dating was the coolest (answer: none of them). And now, after having my second baby seven weeks ago, my brilliant friend Chelsea invented the Spreadsheet Diet. It's rad!
It goes like this. You plug in your fat, carbs, protein, fiber and calories and the time of day you eat them. Then out pops your ratio of these factors. Unlike the low carb diets, which tend to forgive lots of fat, this is a high-protein, regular carb, low-fat diet. And to keep you in check of what your ratio should be, is a little reminder at the bottom. The fun is figuring out what to eat to get your percentages right. 
Why not just use a site like My Fitness Pal or Spark People? My answer to that is why not use this spreadsheet? I can make notes, dream up other calculations to feed my inner dork (my newly invented recipe, "Jenna's Awesome Bean Stuff" has 202.56 calories per cup!) and make pretty charts of my own. 
Now if you will excuse me, I have 77 calories left today and I'm eyeing a glass of wine worth 88. Off to calculate wino data . . .

    I would like a copy. I think Chelsea sent me her original one from a long time ago but I have no idea where I put it. I am pregger right now and will have gained 55lbs in the end (GASP! due 5-31) So I will need all the help I can get. Also, can you BOTH update us on whether this has affected your boobie milk supply? Thanks ladies.

    Ah, you'll lose it. I gained 43 last time and lost a hair shy of 50 and that was *without* this rad spreadsheet.

    I am happy to report the milk supplies of both ladies are raging. Chelsea even took the calories down to 1500-1700 and said everything is still way cool. I stay around 1800ish and actually have too much milk, so there you go.

    Totally cool! Yes, my milk is still flowing strong! :)

    My mom was giving me loads of crap for dropping down to 1500-1700, so I caved and upped my calories for a day and gained a pound back, so I think I have to stick to the 1500-1700 range for me. That seems to be my perfect range while still keeping my milk supply! What can I say, I have a slow metabolism.

  • I love spreadsheets! My friend and I created a meal planning spreadsheet once upon a time. On one tab you enter all of your meals with recipes and ingredients, then on the weekly planner tab you use a drop down to choose which meals you want to make each day and it populates with the recipe and shopping list right next to it. It needs some tweaking still, but it's great.

    You can do it Heather! I just sent you a copy. Just think, no matter how fat you think you are, there is always someone with more weight to lose. Right? You'll be foxy in no time.
