A POST FOR A SPOOKY HALLOWEEN!

I find myself with a little time on my hands today, because I gave a small talk this morning as part of a lecture series and was done earlier than anticipated.

So, I thought I'd write a little something about Halloween.

Growing up, I loved Halloween.

In those days, my cousin and I would go Trick or Treating with no costume. We would be gone for hours, going up and down the tenements in the South Bronx.

We would come home with shopping bags full of candy. It was great.

Somehow, we weren't abducted, murdered or cutting our mouths on razor blades.

I still enjoy Halloween, but mostly as the guy that hands out full sized candy bars.

On Halloween, I am a god!

I like seeing the little kids in their costumes.

I don't care to see the high school students just trolling for candy. Fortunately, we are usually done with all the good stuff by the time they get there.

Granola bar, anyone?

But, as you can well imagine, I do have a small gripe about Halloween.

I do not like adult costume parties.

Now, relax, this won't be one of my usual rants.

It's just that there's something about adults wearing costumes that weirds me out.

No idea why. Wasn't molested by a clown or a pirate, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

It began in college where some kids would make pretty elaborate outfits. Just wasn't for me.

Well, ok, let me be fair here, when the sexy "whatever" (nurse, pilot, devil etc.) craze really got into full swing, that was OK.

I do make efforts, at times, to be more tolerant.

I should also add, that if you invite me to your Halloween Party, I'll be there to drink your booze and eat your food (Better be good!), but I won't dress up.

Well, maybe I'll put on my Halloween tie, but that's it.

So, I wish everyone a Happy Halloween!

Hope the kids get tons of good candy, and you actually let them eat it!

So till next time, if some adult says they had a great time getting dressed up like a zombie-STAY SKEPTICAL!
