It's years ago now (fortunately) but I knew for sure when my then boss 'made' me participate in his frequent blind tastings with friends and it didn't take too long before I got more right than wrong.
At Thanksgiving dinner when I was probably 14 or 15, My aunt had me try a white and my father had me try a red. I immediately loved the red and haven't looked back since! :)
