It was a nerve-wracking back and forth battle to end the mother of all conference rivalries. Sharp scored, then Zetterberg scored.
As the battle neared a conclusion, it was clear one team would go home disappointed and one would have the final conference bragging rights.
Soon it was late in the 3rd period, under 3 minutes left in the game, and Niklas Hjarmalsson nailed a shot past Jimmy Howard that set the United Center on fire.
To everyone's surprise, and horror, the probable game-winning goal did not count as a referee said the play was blown dead to call a penalty on both teams. As Saad was almost murdered on the play and in no way retaliated, it was clear the penalty should have only been called on Detroit, therefore making it a good goal.
The Blackhawks and their fans were beyond deflated after the worst call in the history of the NHL was made, but the team that hasn't quit all season didn't quit. Early in OT Brent Seabrook sent a filthy wrister past Howard to win the biggest game since 2010 for the Hawks.
It's unbelievable that the Hawks were able to not only come back to win a series they were down 3-1, but to win it in OT of Game 7 after the game-winning goal was taken away. This is a special team having an incredibly special season.
