As most people that personally know me, one of the many nicknames I get called is "No Tolls Matt" (it also goes along with my "thriftiness")...reason being is that for at least the last 3-4 years, I've made a point to avoid tolls at all costs, even if it takes an extra 15-20 minutes to get somewhere when all is said an done.
My belief is that the state gets enough of my money and it's worth the extra hassle for me to not pay it any more than I have to.
So when there is a controversial $12 billion, 15-year plan that is looking to be proposed by the Illinois State Toll Highway, it justifies my insanity a little bit more.
In a nutshell, the proposition is to raise rates by 35-45 cents at most toll plazas to fund road maintenance and new construction.
It always seems that even though we pay some of the highest property taxes in the country and are taxed up the rear on almost everything we buy, there is still an issue of finding that all important dollar to fix our roads.
If this outrages you as much as it does other people, the original article lists plenty of meetings around the suburban area today and Monday to voice your opinion.
Are there any other "No Toll Crazies" like me out there that avoid the dreaded plazas like the plague?
