I read the headline and almost LOL'ed myself out of my cubicle chair...#49, better than the Buffalo Grove's, Batavia's, Oswego's, and South Elgin's...
So I guess that when my fiance and I decided on where we were going to buy our first house...we just kind of tripped into looking at Carol Stream after our attempts to find places in Wheaton, Naperville, Downers Grove, or Lisle didn't work out.
We had figured "maybe we should look a bit further north...like Carol Stream or Glendale Heights".
It seems like at the end of the day, the choice we made between the two ended up being the right one according to CNN/Money Magazine as Carol Stream got named the 49th best city to live in America with populations of 8,500 to 50,000.
The magazine whittled its list by using such criteria as school scores, crime statistics, median income and racial makeup. The towns that remained then were judged on such factors as job growth, home affordability, health care, arts and leisure, and ease of living.
So far five months in (aside from the massive rainstorms, power outages, microburst), the "Stream" has been pretty solid to two brand new, first time homeowners.
For those that live in the smaller surrounding suburbs, does your city rank on their top 100? Here is the original list.
