After a three day cavalcade of music, heat, and Chicago treats at this past weekend's Pitchfork festival, it was time to get back to my normal surroundings in the suburbs and realize that the new Rivers Casino in Des Plaines opens today.
It's amazing to me that it took this long for the Rosemont/Des Plaines area to open one of these after all of the new convention centers, theaters, and other attractions that lure people to it's streets.
Are there actually any people that live in Rosemont? I've never actually thought about it, but the town just seems to be one big amusement park of commerce and fun (not that it's a bad thing).
The casino will obviously bring a lot of people that used to travel to Grand Victoria in Elgin, Hollywood Casino in either Aurora or Joliet, or even to Harrah's in Indiana.
This being so close to home also will most likely lead to divorce, foreclosure, and all the other fun things that gambling brings to those who are looking for a "quick cash in", but hey it's fun while it lasts right?
I'll for sure make it out to see the new grounds and all the commotion and give my stamp on how the Canopy Buffet is.
If nothing else, at least we don't have to travel very far to see the bright lights and big dreams that casino's bring.
