Hammervision's 10 Worst Movies of 2011

10. HALL PASS. The Farrelly Brothers used to strike comic gold back in the late '90s. Here, they just feel like relics of a bygone era. Hall Pass plays like a straight to video comedy that should have had "National Lampoon's" in front of the title.
And just like that, we go from best to worst.  There were a ton of mediocre movies this year – movies that fell somewhere in the 2-3 star range on the 5-star scale.  But looking back, I didn’t give one star to as many movies this year as I previously have.  Don’t worry though –... Read more »

Hammervision's 10 Best Movies of 2011

10. THE MUPPETS. From the moment it started to the time the credits rolled, I couldn't wipe the ecstatic smile spread wide across my face while watching Kermit and friends. Call it nostalgia if you wish, but The Muppets is one of the finest comedies of this or any other year. Jason Segel's passion for the Muppets shines through, and Bret McKenzie's songs are the movie's secret weapon. Welcome back, old friends. So good to have you on the big screen again.
Everybody always complains each year that it was a terrible year for movies.  Looking at the 10 movies I’ve selected below, I’d say this was a very good year.  In fact, some of these movies will be in heavy rotation in the Hammerle household for years to come. What you won’t find in my list... Read more »

I'll Make You a Mix Tape

After months of forcing my kids to listen to Lilith Fair music (for a project I’ve been working on, not merely because I enjoy torturing them), I decided to throw them a bone and make them a playlist of fun “essential” songs they should know.  I started going through my iTunes library, picking out the... Memorable TV Moments of 2011

Everyone has their “best of” lists and their “worst of” lists.  My “of” list consists of things that happened on TV in 2011 as I remember them from my brain. ‘Member when… …we didn’t find out who killed Rosie Larsen and everybody got pissed? …Ned lost his head? …Gus lost his face? …Whitney and her... Holiday Movie Review Wrap-Up Part 1
Every holiday season, I see so many movies in such a short period of time that it’s hard to keep up with the reviews, and really, at this point, my focus starts to shift to best of/worst of the year lists.  So, I’ll keep things brief for now – just give you the skinny on... Read more »

To My Daughter on Her First Birthday

Dear Baby Cookies, This is not one of those letters espousing general rules for living your life like, “Don’t listen to your friends.  Date that nerdy tuba player if you want to.  Someday you’ll be rich and fabulous and they’ll be knocked up at 19 and divorced by 24.”  Maybe someday I’ll write you one... What's the Statute of Limitations on SPOILER ALERTs

This morning as I scanned through all the Facebook status updates I’d missed since going to bed at 8:30 PM, I discovered sitting there, unassuming, nestled between somebody’s baby dressed as Rudolph and a complaint about the Metra, the ENDING OF THE SECOND SEASON OF BOARDWALK EMPIRE all spelled out-like. No SPOILER ALERT, no apologies,... Read more »
