Last night, I posted my picks for the 10 best movies of the year.  You can read it here.  But, what the movie gods giveth, they also taketh away.  I could be talking about brain cells, time, money, and more.  Say goodbye to all of those things if you willingly choose to see any of... Read more »

Hammervision's 10 Best Movies of 2013

Hammervision's 10 Best Movies of 2013
One year.  180 movies.  Thanks for the memories, 2013.  This is always a crazy time for me.  As the year ends, I find myself going on one movie bender after another – this past weekend, I hit up 5 movies in 24 hours – in an attempt to see everything of note before making my... Read more »

Best Tweets from the Season Premiere of Breaking Bad

Best Tweets from the Season Premiere of Breaking Bad
Lots of people had lots of things to say about Breaking Bad last night on Twitter. Really, hardly anyone was talking about anything else. Once in a while a True Blood nod would sneak in there, but that’s about it. Folks were chatting about what was happening in the episode, how they needed to get... Read more »

Mid-Year Movie Report Card: 10 Best and 5 Worst
We’re halfway through 2013, and having seen 102 new movies so far, now seemed as good a time as any to take stock of what this year has had to offer audiences.  There have been huge blockbusters (Iron Man 3, with nearly $1.2 billion worldwide), surprise hits (Now You See Me), and big flops (Jack... The 16 Best Zombies of All Time

The 16 Best Zombies of All Time
“They’re Coming to Get You, Barbara . . . .”  Zombies are as popular now as they’ve ever been.  From TV’s The Walking Dead, which concluded its third season earlier this year, to February’s surprise hit Warm Bodies to the release of Brad Pitt’s latest blockbuster-wannabe World War Z on Friday, it seems you can’t go... Best Rock and Roll Songs for Kids

Best Rock and Roll Songs for Kids
My kids have had me listening to the soundtrack to The Muppets for the past…er…million weeks or so (at least that’s how it feels). They’ve especially taken a shine to “We Built This City” by Jefferson Starship. Of course they have. My daughter has picked up on the whole “Rock and Roll” thing and now... Read more »

The 5 Best Movie Theaters in Chicago*

The 5 Best Movie Theaters in Chicago*
You may have guessed this by now, but I like to go to the movies.  I go every week.  Sometimes once.  Usually twice.  In a good week?  4 times.  By now, I’ve been to nearly every movie theater in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.  I know the ins the outs, the pros the cons.  ... Read more »

Hammervision's Top 10 and Bottom 5 Movies of 2012

Hammervision's Top 10 and Bottom 5 Movies of 2012
2012 is almost behind us, and it’s about that time when every critic and blogger on the planet starts making their top 10 lists.  I’m no different – I mean, hey – you don’t see as many movies as I do (over 150 this year!) and not want to make your own list.  Julie disagrees... Read more »

Hammervision's 10 Worst Movies of 2011

10. HALL PASS. The Farrelly Brothers used to strike comic gold back in the late '90s. Here, they just feel like relics of a bygone era. Hall Pass plays like a straight to video comedy that should have had "National Lampoon's" in front of the title.
And just like that, we go from best to worst.  There were a ton of mediocre movies this year – movies that fell somewhere in the 2-3 star range on the 5-star scale.  But looking back, I didn’t give one star to as many movies this year as I previously have.  Don’t worry though –... Read more »

Hammervision's 10 Best Movies of 2011

10. THE MUPPETS. From the moment it started to the time the credits rolled, I couldn't wipe the ecstatic smile spread wide across my face while watching Kermit and friends. Call it nostalgia if you wish, but The Muppets is one of the finest comedies of this or any other year. Jason Segel's passion for the Muppets shines through, and Bret McKenzie's songs are the movie's secret weapon. Welcome back, old friends. So good to have you on the big screen again.
Everybody always complains each year that it was a terrible year for movies.  Looking at the 10 movies I’ve selected below, I’d say this was a very good year.  In fact, some of these movies will be in heavy rotation in the Hammerle household for years to come. What you won’t find in my list... Read more »
