Inappropriate songs that get stuck in my head

I’ve been trying not to sing Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” all morning. This is one the parenting struggles they don’t tell you about at your birthing class. Songs you can’t sing around your children will get stuck in your head. It’s just the way it goes. Because I’m forced to listen to the... Read more »

I love Christian Laettner

I love Christian Laettner
When I mentioned on Facebook that I was excited to watch the 30 for 30 documentary on Christian Laettner, several people from my past responded, “Well, of course you are.” Apparently I was not quiet about my “Crush-tian Laettner” back in the day. I know, as a Butler alumna (heck, as a human being), I’m supposed... Read more »

The worst thing about the NCAA basketball tournament

The worst thing about the NCAA basketball tournament
My alma mater (Butler University) played during the late game last night, and they delivered an amazing game against Notre Dame. It was close the entire time, though they ended up losing in extra minutes. Roosevelt Jones is my new name/basketball hero. But as far as TBS/CBS/Les Moonves/whoever makes these kinds decisions were concerned, the... Read more »

Are we all suffering from information-induced anxiety?

Are we all suffering from information-induced anxiety?
I’m a big worrier. A few weeks ago, Facebook told me that anxiety is a sign of high intelligence, so I’m going to keep riding that high, thanks. All of this is so deep-seeded. I remember as a kid, one particular babysitter used to make me say the “Now I lay me down to sleep... Read more »

What's on your reading list?

What's on your reading list?
I was listening to The Readers podcast yesterday and the topic was to-be-read piles. The two hosts keep physical piles of books as their reading lists, probably because they get a lot of books sent to them. People don’t send me books to review (please do if you want to, though), and I don’t have... Read more »

The kids are getting more smarter, which means my reign of terror could be ending

The kids are getting more smarter, which means my reign of terror could be ending
On Saturday, John asked the kids to clean up their playroom while I was at the gym. When I returned, they were upstairs, making a racket that sounded like it could be cleaning-related. I went about the house, doing the things I needed to get done. When I finally went upstairs, I saw the girl... Read more »

Hammering Out... Cinderella

Hammering Out... Cinderella
Hammering Out… is a series of movie reviews featuring a lively he said/she said discussion between John and Julie. Next up: CINDERELLA. JOHN: Disney really has this movie thing figured out.  They only release a handful of movies each year, which are either animated in-house, Marvel, Pixar, feel-good sports dramas, or live action remakes of... Mmm...Seven more super snacks to keep handy

Instead of "Green Drink Powder" try "Air"<br><br>A brisk walk will taste better and make you feel better than anything called "Green Drink Powder." I guarantee it. Walking solves most problems, including any intestinal ones caused by something called "Green Drink Powder."
I friend of mine just posted a link to this article on Facebook that suggests seven healthy snacks to keep on hand. It inspired me to make my own counter list, because fuck no I’m not keeping “green drink powder” anywhere near my kitchen unless it has the words Kool-Aid on the box. I hate... Read more »
