Fall TV Review: Manhattan Love Story

MANHATTAN LOVE STORY

Airs: Tuesday 8:30/7:30c on ABC

Premise: Newly-minted couple explore New York together. She's a hopeless romantic. He's a douchey frat boy with a flesh-colored beard.

Behind the Scenes: This show is apparently playing with romantic comedy tropes -- his/her voiceovers, Manhattan setting, obnoxious friend characters, girl-who-falls-in-puddle.

The Good: The good is that this show wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was told to be prepared for horrendous, but I the show really falls just that side of "meh."

The Bad: You saw the part about the flesh-colored beard? Also, the actors are likable, but not that likable. This show already pales in comparison to other shows that play with the rom/com format (The Mindy Project) and mismatched protagonists who get together in the first episode leaving you wondering where the hell this show is going (You're the Worst).

Come Back Next Week? No. Watch The Mindy Project on FOX or You're the Worst on OnDemand instead. You'll be much better served.

Grade: C-
