Game of Thrones Winners and Losers: Breaker of Chains

Sorry for no recap last night, all two of you who were looking for it. I was with family for the weekend, and decided that hanging out with 3-D people was more important than taking notes on a TV show. I won't let it happen again.

Anyway, I thought last night's Game of Thrones was a good one. In the days leading up to "Breaker of Chains," John kept asking me if this hour was going to be a letdown, and I didn't know how to answer him. I knew it would be a bit quieter than "The Lion and the Rose," that much was for certain. Joffrey can't die more than once. However, I've always been more interested in the characters' reactions to these big events than in the events themselves, so this kind of episode is right up my alley. Now that Joffrey is gone, the door opens a little wider for the likes of Daenerys and Stannis. The people of King's Landing and the whole of Westeros seemingly have less to fear, because their new king is just a meek little boy and not a prostitute-killing jackhole.

But, folks, I'm still bored with Dany. I feel like we've heard the "I'll be your queen and your savior" speech from her a hundred times in a hundred different languages. In the same dress. Just stop. Do something different. (Mild SPOILER, but also just for your own peace of mind: I think things will be changing for Dany soon. The winds will be shifting. Gods willing.)

Anyway, here are the week's winners and losers, as chosen by me in my living room.

As always, SPOILERS abound, so if you haven't caught up to the most recent episode of Game of Thrones, you'd best tread lightly. Of course the preceding paragraphs were full of spoilers already, so WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS POST?
