The Oscars happened last night.
As far as awards go, the whole thing was completely predictable. Nary a surprise in the bunch, except maybe American Hustle walking away with zero awards. Spike Jonze took the award for Original Screenplay, for Her, beating out David O. Russell in the Hustle's best-chance Oscar category.
Also, I love to point out this little tidbit (it's like I'm an E! Red Carpet host with all of my trivia and KNOWLEDGE): John Ridley won Best Adapted Screenplay (for 12 Years a Slave). He wrote Three Kings. Spike Jonze won Best Original Screenplay. He starred in Three Kings. Who directed that movie? David O. Russell. Now your assignment is to go watch Three Kings.
Anyway, we've gotten to the point that the fashion is the only surprise left unspoiled for the Oscars, and the ladies turned it out (and so did a few of the gentlemen). I loved Lupita Nyong'o's ice blue dress with the cute headband. The whole effect was kind of what Gwyneth Paltrow's pink dress wishes it were.
Ellen Degeneres was not great, Bob. She got in a few snappy jokes; but for the most part, the telecast plodded along, drowning in a sea of pizza delivery jokes and (successful) attempts to break Twitter with a celeb-filled selfie. I hate that she got Meryl Streep to pose for a selfie. Meryl Streep, people. And you wonder why Dame Judi Dench doesn't show up for this shit.
Did you watch the Oscars last night? What did you think?
