Davy Jones is Dead at 66

I am really, really sad that Davy Jones, one of my first famous people crushes as well as the least embarrassing entry on my Embarrassing Fictional Crushes list, has died of a heart attack at 66. Man, he was a talented fox.

Least Favorite Children's Book

Least Favorite Children's Book
As a parent, you find yourself reading the same books over and over again. And I mostly don’t mind, but there’s always that one book on the shelf that you just dread. For my mom, it was a Golden Book called Wilma’s Busy Day, in which Wilma Flintstone tries desperately to take a bath. It... Read more »

Marathoning the Best Picture Nominees: Thoughts on a Second Viewing

Marathoning the Best Picture Nominees: Thoughts on a Second Viewing
Now that The Artist has officially won Best Picture, we can all agree that the best film won, right?  Wrong. On Saturday, Jules and I made our way downtown to the AMC River East theater for the annual Best Picture Showcase.  This was our first year at the event, and though AMC typically splits the... The Oscars Are Ruining America

Dear Self-Congratulatory Hollywood Bung Holes, How freaking dare you. Do you not watch the news? The economy is stuck in the toilet. Gas is $27 per gallon. Jeremy Lin was not in the NBA All-Star Game, which is just Lin-sanity of the highest order and will probably result in the end of the world being... Read more »

Last Minute Oscar Predictions

Last Minute Oscar Predictions
So many awards have already been given out this year and frontrunners named that tonight’s Oscar winners almost feel like a foregone conclusion.  I hope I’m wrong.  I hope that there’s a surprise or two tonight.  But if all my picks are proven true, that won’t be the case.  So here we go.  FYI –... Death By Email

I have multiple email personalities. And I rarely get emails that are worth anything, so it’s just a lot of me deleting things or not deleting things and inboxes getting unwieldy. Comcast – This is my most “personal” email, the one I give to close family and friends. I have not cleaned out this inbox... Read more »

A Bittersweet Breakup After a Decade of Love

A Bittersweet Breakup After a Decade of Love
Dear American Idol, It’s not you, it’s me. OK, it’s a little bit you. We’ve had some great times. Remember the great Ruben/Clay debate of aught-two? Carrie Underwood and her dead eyes? The way you got me into blogging during Season 5? You did that, Idol. You did this. That’s on you. Remember how Blake... Read more »

A "Worst of the Year" 1-2 Punch: Ghost Rider and This Means War

A "Worst of the Year" 1-2 Punch: Ghost Rider and This Means War
Mark it down: by year’s end, we’ll look back at Feb. 17-19 and realize it was one of the worst moviegoing weekends of the year.  Though it was saved in the end by The Secret World of Arietty and another viewing of Drive on Blu-Ray (which, if you haven’t seen, you need to), the two... Read more »

Recap of "The Walking Dead" - Triggerfinger

Recap of "The Walking Dead" - Triggerfinger
I’m really starting to feel for Shane. Not only is he the only “character” on this show, he’s the only one making the tough decisions. He was all, “Let’s stop looking for Sophia,” which was a smart idea because looking for Sophia was only getting people injured. Then he was like, “Let’s open the barn,”... Read more »

To 3D or Not To 3D: Can I Choose IMAX Instead?

To 3D or Not To 3D: Can I Choose IMAX Instead?
George Lucas received more money from me this weekend.  I spent about $11 per ticket for a 9:50 a.m. showing of Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace with my son.  Not just any version of Phantom Menace though – no, in order to get butts in the theater these days, it had that... Read more »
