Stanley Tucci Cast in 'Hunger Games'

Stanley Tucci Cast in 'Hunger Games'

I haven't written much about the Hunger Games casting, but I have been watching with bated breath.  It's the only thing keeping me from losing it over the imminent end of the Harry Potter franchise.

I've been somewhat OK with the casting so far.  I like Jennifer Lawrence.  I think the kid from The Kids Are All Right is too short and looks nothing like how I pictured Peeta, my love.  I'm happy that Elizabeth Banks will be playing Effie.
Now, it appears, Stanley Tucci will be playing Caesar Flickerman, AKA the ageless MC of the Hunger Games.  I have two reactions to this: 1) I'm glad he's not playing Cinna and just reprising his role from The Devil Wears Prada, and 2) I really wish that Ryan Seacrest would've been considered for this part.  That would've been so perfectly meta.

  • Are they going to squeeze all three books into one movie? Or will it be a cinematic trilogy also?

  • In reply to christinewhitley:

It's going to be a trilogy, which should be interesting considering Jennifer Lawrence is already in her early 20s and Katniss is supposed to be 17 to start the series.

I cannot wait for this movie--my kids, too. Only thing is, I'm going to have to wrangle away that book to finish it first. My daughter loaned it to me, then took it back (so she could re-read it) when I was 1/4 of the way through. Now my husband's got it. About the age of "Katniss," Glee's been pulling the "aged teenager" thing off for a while. Maybe it'll work here, too? Thanks for the heads up.

Whenever I think of "aged teenager" my mind goes directly to Andrea Zuckerman of 90210 fame. Oh, and a balding senior-in-high-school Luke Perry.

I am so very excited about this movie. I pushed the books on my reluctant mother and she ended up devouring them. My husband is still slooooowwwwwly working his way through "Mockingjay."

I'm just nervous because Hollywood always ALWAYS messes up books I love. Speaking of Stanley Tucci, I actually really liked The Devil Wears Prada (the book) and the movie made it to be that fitting into a Size 2 was her moment of triumph. ARGH!

I just KNOW Hollywood is going to make it a teen romance, which the book very deliberately was NOT.
