TV Review - Perfect Couples ("Pilot")

perfect-couples-cast.jpg

Airs: Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on NBC
Genre: Sitcom
The Set-Up: Three different couples with three very different types of relationships weave in and out of each other's lives.
The Good: The cast of twenty-somethings is attractive and, for the most part, adept at comedy, particularly Kyle Bornheimer and Christine Woods, as Dave and Julia - the most sane couple. The pilot contains a handful of funny lines but...
The Bad: Those lines are buried under a frantic, LOUD, and in-your-face tone that drains all the humor out of them.  One of the couples (David Walton and Always Sunny's Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are annoying drama queens who constantly fight and break-up.  Their storyline drives most of the pilot and the show is borderline unwatchable whenever they're on screen.  It doesn't really fit in with the other Thursday night NBC comedies.
The Verdict: If the show calms down and doesn't force its "comedy" so much, it could settle into an easy, enjoyable watch.  But it's so far from that right now that I doubt it will be able to do so.  My guess is that NBC yanks it off the air by May and tries out a different sitcom in its place in the fall.  ** out of 5 stars.
