TV Review - Being Human ("There Goes the Neighborhood")

Airs: Mondays at 9/8c on SyFy
Genre: Drama
The Set-Up: In an attempt to achieve normalcy, a vampire (Sam Witwer), werewolf (Sam Huntington), and ghost (Meaghan Rath) become roommates.  U.S. adaptation of the hit BBC series.
The Good: Being Human embraces its pop cultural roots and has a tongue-in-cheek tone.  Jacob himself (Mark Pellegrino) appears as a vampire named Bishop, in what promises to be a recurring role.  Plenty of drama to mine from the supernatural element.
The Bad: Not even the presence of Pellegrino can make a dent in audience's interest level.  The timing feels off - Being Human arrives on television about a year too late.  Do we really need another vampire show after Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, and True Blood?  The pacing is slack and the pilot really dragged for its hour running time.  Drab color scheme - grey colors everything. Cheesy, only-on-SyFy special effects.
The Verdict: Though I suspect there are a minority of viewers out there who are going to love the show and passionately support it, I think the majority will just shrug a collective "eh" and move on to something more worthwhile.  ** out of 5 stars.
