How "Essential" Are You?

FilmReel(ForUseOnBW.com).jpg

31 years (starting from my birth year).  310 movies.  The Essential movies.  It's been quite a journey getting to this point.  Now that we're all caught up, and while we're waiting for the remaining big-ticket flicks of 2010 to be released so I can finally unleash my Best Of/Worst Of list for the year, I thought I'd throw down a challenge: how many of these Essential movies have you seen?  Take a look, count 'em up, and score yourself.  Then comment, and let me know where you stand.  Here's the guide:

300-310 = Congrats!  You're an Essential Movie Fan.  Hollywood loves you.
280-300 = Excellent.  You can contribute to almost any movie conversation.  Let's hang.
250-280 = Great.  You've seen most of the big ones.  Don't let the hidden gems pass you by.
220-250 = Good.  That's a lot of movies.  Keep it up!
180-220 = Solid effort.  I give you a B-.  Room for improvement.
150-180 = Just okay.  You've seen about half of them - that makes you 1/2 a movie fan.
120-150 = Not good.  Put that Netflix queue to better use!
90-120 = Weak sauce.  What, are you too busy to watch movies?
50-90 = Yikes.  Do you even own a television?
20-50 = Horrific.  We probably don't have much to talk about.
0-20 = Uh, remind me: why are you reading this blog again?

  • I've seen 259, which should probably be a higher number considering we own most of these movies (if not all of them).

Some embarrassing misses for me: Big and The Blues Brothers.

  • Wow. Those are big misses. What are some other ones?

  • 275

  • 129, but I bet you could have guessed that. I just don't watch very movies, I guess. :)

  • 213. Not to shabby...

  • I've seen 274, just four short of being "Excellent." Maybe I'll try to knock the other 36 out as part of some sort of New Year's resolution.
