EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) - Who Will Be the Next to Win One

Tracy Jordan EGOT

The EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony quadfecta) is the most prestigious badge of honor available to anyone in the performance industry (at least according to Tracy Jordan it is).  There have been very few EGOT award winners since the history of time.  The list includes Rita Moreno, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, and Whoopi Goldberg.  Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand have asterisks next to their awards since they only received honorary Grammy and Tony Awards respectively.

Here are some current artists and their chances of achieving an EGOT in their lifetime.

Maybe I'm wrong to hold the Oscar in such high esteem.  I mean, who's to say that one of the current Grammy darlings won't step up and be the next Cher?  I can definitely see Taylor Swift heading in that direction based on her brilliant turn in the cinematic masterpiece Valentine's Day.

Who are you rooting for to next wear the badge of EGOT honor?

  • I'm voting for Tracy Jordan.

So am I. His Thomas Jefferson biopic should make him a lock for the Oscar.

  • Maybe I'm siding with the most recognizable faces in the group, but I feel Jamie Fox and J Hud have the best odds of reaching EGOT status first. I agree with you that the Grammy/Oscar duo are the highest hurdles, since you have to have to be a great actor and, to boot, have some serious singing ability. J Hud has a huge head start, winning the big prize right out of the gate (and we know how many great actors had to try many many times to do the same). Moreover, I have a feeling that, despite some really early (huge) successes, she is just at the start of her career (and not about to flame out like so many many Idol contestants). Plus, come on, she's our hometown girl and Weight Watchers got her looking HOT! So, yeah, my money is on J-Hud to be the newest member of the EGOT posse.

I agree with you (and I'm going to throw CZJ in there as well). I know it really pains John to think about it, but J-Hud is totally going to achieve EGOT status. I, for one, will be cheering her on. Suck it, Simon Cowell!

  • In reply to Magistra:

Yuck. People are starting to get wise to J-Hud. I think they now realize they made a mistake giving her the Oscar. Too much, too soon.

  • In reply to Hammer:

Accept it. The J-Hud EGOT will happen. She'll be able to win a Tony with that voice of hers (not to mention her high-profile status). Then she'll wait a few years for the J-Hud backlash to come all the way back around to J-Hud love.
