The Essentials: 1980

In one decade and out the other, the arrival of 1980 brought with it a number of memorable events.  Ronald Reagan was elected President.  John Lennon was shot to death.  The first camcorders and fax machines were made available in Japan.  And, oh yes, the Pac Man arcade game was first released.  Gas cost $1.19 per gallon back then.  CNN became the first 24-hour news channel, while millions tuned in to Dallas to find out who shot J.R.  As for the movies, audiences were treated to some classic films from now-legendary directors.  Here are the "essentials":

    Thanks Nonie! yeah, it's fun to go back and see what all came out that particular year. It's always easy to pick the top 5, but then as you get down the list, it's harder to pick from the others. Did any of your favorites make the cut? Would you have put Empire first?

    Riiiiiiight. A Goldie Hawn movie that spawned a remake starring Jessica Simpson is going to be memorialized along side Raging Bull and the Shining.
