An Education: Carey Mulligan earned a boatload of praise (and a Best Actress nomination) for her work in this Nick Hornby-scripted period drama.  The movie was also nominated for Best Picture - the only nominee I didn't get a chance to see in theaters last year.  Looking forward to catching it at home.

Sherlock Holmes: The chemistry between Robert Downey, Jr. (as Holmes) and Jude Law (as Watson) makes this empty but enjoyable remake worth a look.  Nice to see director Guy Ritchie enjoy some mainstream success. ***1/2

Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel: A total rehash of the first movie, with the Chippettes added in for some degree of freshness.  Kids will dig the 'munks, but adults will be hard-pressed to even tolerate them.  **

The Killer: John Woo teams with Chow Yun-Fat for this modern action classic.

Collateral: Tom Cruise makes for a great bad guy and Jamie Foxx co-stars as his worthy foil in this clever, entertaining thriller from Heat's Michael Mann.
