How to eat healthy when traveling
I have talked with other people online and in person to where they don't know how to eat healthy while they are traveling. Summer opens up for family vacations and school trips. Being on the go can tend to put a damper on healthy eating because your routine is switched around or changed. I would like to give you some tips on how to eat healthy while your enjoying those great trips.
How to eat healthy while traveling depends on your ability to plan ahead. You take the time to pack your needed clothes, you should take the time to think about snacks to pack in the car or on the plane. This past weekend, we traveled to Michigan for my cousin's graduation party. I made sure I packed fruits and veggies that were already cut up. I even packed a cooler in the car for all my water to drink.
If you know you will be eating out at different restaurants, take the time to search the menu. When you go into the restaurant knowing what to expect, then you will be successful on staying on plan. You can also ask the waitress/waiter how the food is prepared and to hold the oil/butter. I try to order a fruit or salad instead of fries while I eat out.
At gas stations they have bananas, apples, and protein bars to purchase. I have seen these choices at airports too. When I flew to New York last year, I made sure I ate their salads and brought fiber one bars. I even enjoyed popped chips for my in flight snack.
I also encourage you to enjoy the sights during the travel and visit. Travel doesn't have to be all about food. We all know that those roads are cluttered with signs about restaurants to eat at. I suggest you chew gum or rock to your favorite song.
When I got to my destination, I focused on talking to my family. This helped me to stay away from all those yummy sweets for the party on the table and catch up with family. I also moved a lot. I had a blast bouncing on the trampoline.
Next week I will be traveling to Portland, Oregon for the FitBloggin conference. I'm excited to have the opportunity to live blog a session on dealing with sensitive issues. I have never been to Oregon nor this conference. I'm excited to meet different health, wellness, and fitness bloggers I have been following. For example some of them are: Melissa from The Daily Mel Blog, Brooke from Brooke Not On A Diet Blog, Margo from Nachos Mama Blog, and Erica from twitter.
I plan to pack as many healthy snacks as I can for the plane ride. The trip will have plenty of opportunities for movement with tours and group fitness classes to participate in. This will be trip worth blogging about.
What are your favorite snacks to pack for a road trip? I like fiber one brownies, grapes, almonds, carrots, baked chips, and pretzels.
