As early as middle school, I was writing stories, drawing pictures and pasting them into blank bound books – I've always wanted to be a children’s book author! Expanding my scope and becoming the editor-in-chief of my high school’s monthly newsmagazine, I knew writing would be part of my life forever. And so it was -- a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), complemented by a Master’s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University landed me in Chicago where I have set down some roots personally and professionally.
During more than a decade of business-to-business magazine writing and editing, I served as managing editor, editor-in-chief and launched a new magazine from concept to publishing. I also led project management for custom-publishing projects and continue to do so through Jill Rivkin Communications (Need a freelancer, anyone?). I launched my own business to build a freelance career servicing major multinational market research firms, consumer-packaged-goods marketers and business magazines. Then I set out to realize a dream and published my first children’s book in August 2014 – Crazy Hair – and second one in August of 2015 – It’s Just a Potato.
I launched Grateful Girl blog to help find -- and inspire -- gratitude in daily life. The pace of life today doesn't always allow us to "stop and smell the flowers," but doing so for a moment each day delivers great benefits emotionally and physically. I have set out to expand my own practice of finding life's grateful moments in a fun, easy-going way, and I hope to bring others on the journey with me.
