Would you share your preferred porn websites with your teen?

Would you share your preferred porn websites with your teen? One father did just that after he found porn on his 13-year old son's computer. This father was trying to remove a virus from his son's computer and found a history full of porn sites. He wasn't sure what to do so he wrote his son a letter so as not to embarrass him. In the letter he gave his son a list of porn sites that would not wreak havoc on his computer. He didn't just list one or two websites, he listed five! Was this the right thing to do?

While this father did not want to embarrass his son by addressing this issue in person, I think he created an even more embarrassing situation. No teenager wants to think about his parents having sex! He has now informed his son that he watches porn and has some favorite sites. The son will now go to these sites and wonder if his parents are doing some of the same things that are shown on the sites recommended by his father.

I guess it didn't occur to him that listing the porn websites could be viewed as a really bad idea. He essentially told his 13-year old son that it was perfectly fine for him to watch porn. This kid is never going to play sports, video games or go on Facebook ever again! If he spends time with friends, it will be in his bedroom on his computer because (I guarantee) he will be the only kid with permission to watch porn. I am told that every man has a stash of porn. Is he going to share his stash with his kid?

He should have sucked it up and talked to his son in person. Thirteen years old is a little young to be heavily engaged in watching porn. Teens are naturally curious about sex but internet porn should not be an option to satisfy that curiosity.  Still photos in magazines are a better option for curious teens.  At 13, kids are still learning about themselves and how their bodies work. They are not old enough to fully grasp what is happening in a pornographic video. I visited the websites that this father recommended to his son (for research purposes) and I would have a problem with my teen viewing those sites. There are adults who have unrealistic expectations of sex from watching porn. Some websites have a long list of categories of all kinds of sex. Even people who think that they are adventurous, can visit certain porn sites and feel a little prudish. I believe there is a such thing as over-exposure. Those sites contain too much sex for a teenage brain to process.
