What makes your heart flutter?
Everyone desires something. Be it relationships, friendship, love, respect, admiration, acceptance, we all have those carnal desires that involve the people and things around us.
No one is an island. Or at least, most are not willingly. So, I'll just cut to the chase.
I mentioned this in my previous post about adventure being at the heart of a woman. There is a reason that "Fifty Shades of Grey" may be a poor read, but is the most read paperback of all time— according to dailymail.co.uk.
Women want romance, even if only through a fictitious character who seemingly gets herself involved in an erotic romance. It's not the erotica.
Well, maybe it's both? I haven't read the book. It's the suspense. It's the desire to be sought after, to be rescued.
But what happens after the rescue? Is it like Disney movies where the princess is rescued and she and the prince "live happily ever after?"
If only that were true. I think many more woman should make it their life goal to marry Jesus. That would be more satisfying.
And somehow that would be too easy, or too hard, depending on how you look at it.
Easy because people like a challenge, and hard because Jesus is not actually in human form anymore.
But that's the cool thing about faith.
Adventure is a desire at the heart of men too.
So, think about that for a moment. What ignites that flame in you or fills that longing for adventure? Dating multiple people, listening to uplifting music, or taking part in extreme sports?
When those things are over or done with for the day, do you feel full and satisfied?
I remember in college I desired to be romanced. I had no man in my life at the time, at least not any who I was interested in dating. I remember I prayed that God would romance me.
Literally, for a week I did not open one door for myself. Even when I stopped at the water fountain, the water was already running. It is almost as if God himself knew I'd be there at that exact moment. Wait, he actually did. :)
"Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him."
So, as you embark on yet another day, you're probably sucked into a repetitive routine: wake up, work, lunch, work, home, sleep, etc. Only to wake up the next morning and do it all over again.
Except for you entrepreneur or serving types, you probably have a schedule all of your own.
Stop and ask the Creator of the universe to romance you in a way that is specific to you.
Watch, and be surprised. Watch, and be amazed.
God is quite a character, and he knows you better than you know yourself.
In fact, he knows just what your soul most longs for and needs. And if you are in tune with him and he with your current or future partner or spouse, he can whisper those secrets into his/her ear on your behalf as well.
Isaiah 30:21: "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."
Will you let God romance you today?
