I just got done reading “100 Things Cubs Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die” by Jimmy Greenfield. Amy got me the book as a Christmas present and I read it in no time at all. I’m not a really good book reviewer but I had to share what an absolutely great time I had reading this book.
What a fun trip down memory lane! I don’t need to explain here what a big Cubs fan I am. I have written about it before, I have season tickets, and I even have the logo tattooed on my leg. One day I hope to add “World Series Champions” to it but that’s another story in itself.
I don’t remember the exact day I went to my first game but I was very young and I was hooked. This book really touches on all of the emotions and memories that I have as a Cubs fan.
I have to admit, not all the memories this book brought up were good ones. I was born in 1968 so I didn’t experience the heartbreak of the ‘69 collapse, but I have experienced my own share of heartbreak. I lived through ‘84, ‘89, and I still have a hard time talking about 2003 without tearing up.
From Sandberg, to Banks, to the beauty of Wrigley Field, to Brock and Maddux, to the Goat, to Sosa, to Veeck, to Harry, to Brickhouse, to Elia, to playoff collapses, to Pappas, to fun-loving memories. This book truly has it all!
The only problem with reading it right now is that I can’t wait for baseball season and we are still a few months away.
If you or someone you love is a passionate die-hard Cubs fan, this book truly is a must have. When you get done with it, look me up. I am ready to talk Cubs and this book brings up a ton to talk about.
You can pick up a copy of “100 Things Cubs Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die” here on Amazon.
If you really want to do something cool for that Cubs fan in your life, get them an autographed copy. You can email Jimmy at firstname.lastname@example.org
For about $20 it would make a unique gift. Trust me, they will LOVE it!!!
