Sometimes being a dad can be an experience for sure. I wouldn’t trade being a dad for anything. I love every minute of it. Here are some of my classic moments as a dad.
The napping child on you
This is something that is special and makes every problem in the world disappear. I remember getting advised not to ever do this by people because the kids would never learn to sleep in their own beds. Somehow all of my kids are good sleepers and all of them slept on me at one time or another.
Sniffing a butt to see if it’s time for a diaper change
I didn’t say this was a highlight. Who does this kind of thing? Every parent I know, that’s who. Let’s take a baby, who most likely has a diaper full of toxic waste, and then smash their butt into my nasal passage. I wonder why I did it every time I did it and then I continue to do it again and again. Isn’t that the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result? Welcome to parenthood.
Yelling “train!” or “cow” or “insert other item” while driving
Yes, I am that guy who will stop mid-sentence to point out to my kids something that they might like to see. One of my sons loves trains and he will scream “train” every time he sees one.
Learning to block out noise
I know that I have an advantage here being half deaf but I can still hear loud noises and with a house full of noise machines that rival a rock concert, I have learned to truly master the art of blocking out noise. There is nothing like that first sip of coffee in the morning once you have mastered this art form. If you can enjoy your morning coffee in actual silence, even better.
The moment right before I go to sleep
I love talking to my wife at night in bed. With the exceptions of date night, it’s usually one of the few places we can talk without a lot of other interruptions.
There is something peaceful knowing that all the kids are in bed and asleep safe, the love of my life is next to me, the house is quiet, and I can just be still and thank God for all the blessing He has given me.
Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
